Nyamira County Women Representative and gubernatorial aspirant Jerusha Momanyi has called on residents to register as voters in the ongoing IEBC enhanced voter registration exercise.
Ms. Momanyi stated that the current registration pace in Nyamira County is worrying, noting that neighboring counties have recorded significantly higher numbers.
Speaking at Nyamabaria High School in Kitutu Masaba constituency where she led an empowerment campaign for the vulnerable, Ms. Momanyi said Nyamira residents need to realize the importance of registering.
“I am asking you to register as voters because the task ahead needs your total participation in electing leaders who will influence development for the next five years,” she noted.
Current IEBC data as of April 2, 2026, indicates a national total of 344,316 newly registered voters and 18,610 transfers.
However, the local breakdown shows a stark contrast where Nyamira County recorded 3,229 new voters whereas Kisii County recorded 10,455 new voters.
Ms. Momanyi emphasized that Nyamira will only gain political leverage if residents register in large numbers.
“It is your responsibility and constitutional right to register so that you can elect leaders of your choice,” she advised.
Regarding the upcoming elections, Ms. Momanyi urged the electorate to judge leaders based on their track records rather than party affiliations.
“The people of Nyamira will only elect us if we have delivered. We will not be voted in because of our parties or political alignments,” she opined.
She further assured the people of Kitutu Masaba that she is ready to serve as Governor to demonstrate the effectiveness of female leadership.
She criticized past administrations, claiming, “Previous governors have struggled to perform, making devolution look ineffective compared to its goal of alleviating poverty at the grassroots.”
If elected, Ms. Momanyi would make history as the first female governor from Nyamira County.
She emphasized her strategy of working closely with the Ruto administration to secure development projects.
She cited the Magombo–Bondeni road tarmacking project and the ongoing construction of Kiabonyoru University as fruits of this collaboration.
She also hinted that the Riamoni road project is in the pipeline.
Addressing the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) terminus in Ikonge, Ms. Momanyi vowed that the President would include it in the final design.
“We have held talks with the President, and I can assure you that Ikonge will get a substation something all legislators from the Gusii region have agreed on,” she promised.
She urged fellow politicians not to politicize the issue.
However, mixed reactions have emerged after the recently released schedule for President Ruto’s visit to the Gusii region omitted the Ikonge substation launch.
Many still hope the President will address the matter during his tour next week, where he is expected to assess projects in both Kisii and Nyamira.
At the event, the Women Rep distributed blankets to residents born before 1954 to assist them during the current cold and rainy season.
She also donated an electric posho mill to the Nyakwerigeria Widows Self-help Group and tents to the Riaraka, Bochura, and Riegechure self-help groups.
