Nyairang’a Primary School administration has lauded efforts by a senatorial aspirant to renovate the school’s roofs.
Engineer Adams Mochenwa, through his organization, the Adams Mochenwa Foundation, delivered iron sheets to the school ahead of the scheduled renovations.
Addressing the media after receiving the materials on Tuesday morning, Celestine Mochama, the deputy headteacher, noted that the school’s roofs had rusted and were leaking.
She received the donation with gratitude, terming it a wonderful gesture from the aspirant.
”I can confirm that I have, this morning, received 30 iron sheets that he had promised to deliver,” Ms. Mochama said.
She added that the rusted roofs will be removed and new ones put in place as soon as possible.
The iron sheets will be used to re-roof the ECDE block, which has been in a dilapidated condition for a long time.
This donation by Adams Mochenwa through his foundation is part of an ongoing initiative that has already benefited more than 50 schools across the county.
Engineer Mochenwa, a senatorial aspirant in Nyamira County, had earlier promised to look into the school’s roofing needs.
Eng. Mochenwa, an alumnus of Nyairang’a Primary School, conveyed through his Personal Assistant (PA), Andrew Onyancha, that he remains committed to transforming the institution, which he feels has been left behind for too long.
”Engineer Mochenwa decided to give back to the school that shaped him into who he is today,” Onyancha said.
He further noted that “villagers had requested Eng. Mochenwa for support,” adding, “today we are here to confirm the reception of the iron sheets.
Eng. Mochenwa has actually delivered on his promise within four days after the request was placed.”
The school’s chairman, Robert Maina, also lauded Mochenwa’s support, saying pupils will now be able to enjoy their studies in a more conducive environment.
The chairman noted, however, that the school still needs further infrastructural assistance and appealed to well-wishers to support where they can.
”We also need a modern kitchen where our junior school meals can be prepared because currently, we are cooking in a mud-walled kitchen,” Maina added.
Besides the structural renovation projects, Eng. Mochenwa has also supported ECDE learners with books, pencils, and other stationery.
”We have only 70 schools left to complete our support program for ECDE learners in the county,” PA Onyancha confirmed.
Local villagers who gathered at the school to witness the delivery urged other political leaders to follow suit and fulfill the promises they make to the public.
Eng. Mochenwa is seeking to unseat the current senator, Okong’o O’mogeni, in a highly competitive race that has attracted more than 10 aspirants.
Mochenwa, who has won the hearts of many residents through his foundation’s philanthropic work, is widely considered to hold a strong hand in the upcoming elections.
