Extension Officer
Position Summary
To implement GBM’s project(s) in the identified project areas.
Duties and responsibilities
-
- Promote sustainable land management and climate-resilient production practice on-farm and on the riparian reserves;
- Support in the review and development of training materials and modules for food security, livelihoods and resilience initiatives;
- Establish specific capacity building methodologies for effective delivery and sustainability of project interventions;
- Mobilize rural communities in Makueni County to form tree nursery groups or take part in tree planting and any other activities as per GBM’s project requirements;
- Plan and administer training and capacity building of tree nursery groups on the best nursery management and seedling production methods;
- Provide technical support for the successful implementation of Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) activities;
- Follow up, map and keep track of all the tree nursery groups, households and planted sites in the project area;
- Train groups and farmers on FMNR, climate smart agriculture, sustainable energy options, soil and water conservation;
- Monitor and support the timely and appropriate utilization of budgeted resources for all project activities;
- Provide monthly progress reports on the project implementation as required;
- Attend the regular weekly and monthly planning meetings as called upon; and
- Perform any other duties as delegated.
Skills and Qualifications

- Degree in Natural Resource Management, Business Administration, Community Development, Project Management or related field;
- At least 3 years of experience in implementing environmental and/or development-related programs;
- Knowledge and experience in gender mainstreaming and social inclusion is an added advantage;
- Must have good understanding of the different systems of extension or field work delivery;
- Ability to engage with local communities, partners and government authorities;
- Good organization, analytical and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to ride a motorbike is an added advantage;
- Excellent English and Swahili communication skills (oral and written);
- Excellent computer skills

Communications Intern
Position Summary
The Purpose of this position is to provide an opportunity for graduates, especially fresh graduates to obtain a first-hand impression of the day-to-day working environment, learn, develop new skills and gain experience. Under the supervision of the Communication Officer, the core function of this intern position is to support the Communication Office with various communication processes essential to day-to-day operations.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Assist in writing and editing reports, blogs and success stories;
- Assist in organizing events;
- Participate in activities organized by the organization or partners and write articles for dissemination;
- Assist in maintaining and engaging the general public through the organization’s social media sites;
- Assist in building strong and active relationships with the media to increase the organization’s profile in Kenya and internationally;
- Assist in responding to general requests as will be instructed;
- Assist in developing communication materials for events and help spread awareness through relevant channels; and
- Any other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications

Finance Support Intern
Position Summary

The core function of this intern position is to support the finance operations department.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Assist in budgeting, cash flow planning and activities costs management;
- Assist in procurement and payments processes;
- Assist in audits and reviews;
- Support proper filing and retrieval of transaction documentation;
- Assist in business advance management and reconciliations; and

Geographic Information Technologies (GIS) Intern
Position Summary
The Purpose of this position is to provide an opportunity for graduates, especially fresh graduates to obtain a first-hand impression of the day-to-day working environment, learn, develop new skills and gain experience. Under the supervision of the Geographic Information Technologies (GIS) Specialist, the core function of this intern position is to assist in planning, implementation and monitoring of the organization’s projects, such as, collecting, summarizing and integrating available data for project sites.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Assist in organizing and carrying out baseline survey and other related data collection activities in the field;
- Assist in collecting data from various constituencies, creating metadata, verifying projections, maintaining a consistent naming convention for geospatial data and maintaining the data in an organized directory structure;
- Assist in maintaining data sets required for the production of information products to support conservation activities:
- Assist in carrying out data processing, reformatting and spatial analysis to support activities of the various programs;
- Assist in mapping production and related cartographic support to field and office-based staff to support planning, implementation and monitoring;
- Assist in preparing and reporting on the various activities carried out by the GIS department as well as provision of project status reports; and
- Any other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications

- A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in GIS, Geography, Earth Science or a related field from an accredited college or university;

- High knowledgeable in the design, development, implementation and administration of geographic information systems, including analysis and database development and integration;
- Knowledge and experience in use of GIS mapping software products;
