Following a period of administrative transition, Nyamira County is on the process of stabilizing its human resource management.
Governor Amos Nyaribo has officially set a deadline for the end of May to have a fully functional County Public Service Board (CPSB) in place, a move expected to streamline county operations and address long-standing staffing needs.
The journey toward a new board reached a critical milestone this week when the Governor received the formal report from the Selection Panel tasked with vetting the next generation of county leadership.
The Selection Process
The five-member Selection Panel, led by Chairperson Edwin Makori, spent weeks navigating a mountain of applications from across the region.
Their mandate was to identify individuals with the integrity and expertise required to oversee the county’s civil service.
According to the report presented to the Governor, the panel has narrowed the field to a competitive shortlist:
- Board Chairperson: 3 candidates
- Board Members: 6 candidates
- Board Secretary: 2 candidates
From this pool, Governor Nyaribo is tasked with selecting one Chairperson, one Secretary, and five Members to form the final body.
A Call for Urgent Approval
With the names now in hand, the focus shifts from recruitment to the legislative vetting process.
Governor Nyaribo emphasized his commitment to transparency and speed to ensure the county’s developmental goals aren’t hindered by vacant offices.
“Upon appointment, I will forward the names to the County Assembly for approval,” the Governor said.
The Governor expressed high hopes that the transition would be seamless and completed within the next few weeks.
“I hope our County Assembly will also move with speed to convene and approve the names,” he said.
Gratitude and Confidence
The Governor extended his gratitude to the Selection Panel for their tireless work in filtering through the high volume of interest the positions garnered.
He noted that their efficiency was key to keeping the county on schedule.
In response, Chairperson Edwin Makori expressed his appreciation for the executive’s trust, thanking the Governor for the “confidence he had in the team” to deliver a fair and rigorous report.
As the month of May progresses, all eyes will be on the Nyamira County Assembly to see how quickly they act on the Governor’s nominees.
