Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has today unveiled the Nyamira County-KCB Foundation 2Jiajiri Full Scholarship Program, valued at Sh30 million.

The partnership, a 50-50 shared investment between the County Government and the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Foundation, will benefit 579 Vocational and Technical Training Centre (VTC) students drawn from all wards across Nyamira.

During the launch, the Governor urged students to embrace vocational training as a pathway to self-employment and wealth creation.

He emphasized that the partnership is a direct fulfillment of his administration’s pledge to create jobs.

“The program complements the fulfillment of the strategic pillar of my manifesto on job and wealth creation through the empowerment of the youth,” Governor Nyaribo stated.

The Governor further announced that his government is committed to building an inclusive society through strategic support for the youth.

“My government will allocate an additional Sh10.5 million to support 1,786 trainees through partial scholarships, expanding the reach of the vocational training program and ensuring more young people gain access to market-driven skills,” he said.

Mr. Joblin Omari, the Head of Programs at KCB Foundation, commended the Nyamira County leadership for its commitment to youth empowerment.

He noted that the foundation’s primary goal is to nurture job creators rather than job seekers.

“After your exams, we will meet here again to celebrate your graduation and provide toolkits to enable you to start working and create jobs for others,” Mr. Omari announced.

Deborah Maseno, a beneficiary of the program, expressed her gratitude to both the county and the foundation, noting that the scholarship allowed her to complete studies that would have otherwise been out of reach.

“Many of us felt hopeless until we received this scholarship, which has fully catered for our tuition and other needs,” Maseno said.

She encouraged those who did not attain university grades to join VTCs to gain entrepreneurial skills.

Edwin Onsare, a beneficiary from Saiga Ngiya VTC, acknowledged the life-changing impact of the support for students from underprivileged backgrounds.

“This support has positively impacted our lives. My future looks much brighter now. We are not only learners; we are builders of our own futures,” Onsare said.

Nyamira County CEC Member for Education, Emily Ongaga, echoed these sentiments, noting that vocational training is central to preparing young people for the realities of the modern job market.

“We are equipping our trainees with practical skills that will enable them to stand on their own and create employment for others,” she added.

The ceremony, held at Jamuhuri Gardens at the county headquarters, was attended by the Nyamira County Assembly Chair for the Committee on Education, Samwel Ogeto, alongside various MCAs, County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), and Chief Officers.
