West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka has led residents in dedicating the long-neglected Bondeni-Magombo Road, which is set for a major upgrade following the arrival of construction machinery in the constituency.
The machinery was delivered earlier this week, paving the way for the commencement of works on the road, which residents have for years complained about due to its poor condition.
Speaking during the dedication ceremony at Bondeni Junction, Mogaka criticised successive governments for failing to upgrade the road despite decades of appeals from residents.
“Since 1930, when this road was constructed, it has remained a rough road, government in, government out,” Mogaka said.
The MP said residents of West Mugirango had endured transportation challenges for decades, accusing the last four administrations of ignoring calls to improve the road.
He described the failure to upgrade the road as discrimination against the constituency.
Mogaka also took issue with leaders within the Jubilee Party, accusing some of them of frustrating his efforts to attract development projects to West Mugirango.
He claimed that some Jubilee leaders had been using political meetings to push the Wantam (one-term) narrative, arguing that such remarks had angered President William Ruto and undermined development efforts in the constituency.
“They have now become hurdles in my quest to develop the constituency because they are after tainting the name of the President in West Mugirango,” Mogaka said.
The MP further called on ODM leaders in Nyamira County to support President Ruto’s administration, saying the party’s participation in the broad-based government presented an opportunity for the county to benefit from government projects.
Mogaka urged ODM leaders to put political differences aside and work with the administration to accelerate development in Nyamira County.
“ODM is in government and has the biggest share in terms of development, and if we want Nyamira to grow, ODM leaders in Nyamira should tap development instead of fighting President Ruto,” he said.
He argued that the same administration that opposition leaders have criticised was responsible for awarding West Mugirango the bitumen road whose dedication marked the beginning of a new phase for residents.
The ceremony was led by Bishop Gichana Maraburi and Pastor Shem Monyoro, who jointly prayed for the successful construction and completion of the road.
