Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo says his administration is on course to deliver 90 per cent of its development manifesto by April 2027.
Nyaribo said his administration had made significant progress in implementing its development agenda since taking office, citing investments in agriculture, health, roads and education.
The Governor spoke at Riokenye in Borabu Sub-County during the launch of an e-voucher livestock vaccination campaign and the issuance of Sh38.6 million in grants to farmer organisations.
Nyaribo said the county had embarked on a two-month, farm-to-farm vaccination campaign against Foot and Mouth Disease, targeting more than 113,800 cattle across Nyamira.
“I am pleased to officially launch this e-voucher vaccination against Foot and Mouth Disease, as we also issue grants to farmers’ organisations,” Nyaribo said.
Under the subsidy programme, the county government will pay Sh110 per animal, while farmers will contribute Sh50 per head.
The Governor said the county was investing Sh32.6 million in inclusion grants for farmers and a further Sh3.8 million to support 40 Farmer-Led Demonstration Farms.
“This huge investment is aimed at building a productive, profitable and climate-resilient economy,” he said.
Nyansiongo Ward MCA Jackson Mogusu welcomed the funding, saying it would strengthen agricultural activities while calling for greater sensitisation to bring more farmer cooperatives into the programmes.
Health investment
Nyaribo said his administration was also taking steps to address drug shortages and gaps in medical infrastructure across the county.
He announced plans to inject an additional Sh200 million into the health fund to ensure a continuous supply of medicines in public health facilities.
The county is also partnering with the Safaricom Foundation on a Sh65 million project to construct a mother and child unit at Nyansiongo Sub-County Hospital. Nyaribo said the county would allocate a further Sh104 million to equip the facility.
The Governor said the county had procured 10 dialysis machines for Nyamira County Referral Hospital and plans to acquire another 30 during the current financial year.
The additional machines will be distributed to Nyamira County Referral Hospital, Masaba Level 4 Sub-County Hospital in Keroka and Ekerenyo, with Nyansiongo also expected to receive some.
Roads and education
On infrastructure, Nyaribo pledged to complete ongoing road projects before the 2027 elections.
He said about 20 kilometres of roads had been completed under the first phase of the Barabara Mashinani programme in more than half of the county’s wards, with the second phase expected to begin in January 2027.
In education, the Governor highlighted a partnership with the KCB Foundation that has provided full scholarships to 700 trainees in Vocational Training Centres. The county government has also provided partial scholarships to more than 2,000 other trainees, he said.
Nyaribo also cited the UjiAfya programme and the introduction of digital learning in all 408 public Early Childhood Development Education centres in the county.
He said enrolment in ECDE centres had increased from 28,000 to 35,000 learners following the introduction of the UjiAfya programme.
The Governor also urged residents to maintain peace and respect one another as the country approaches the 2027 General Election.
“As political temperatures begin to rise ahead of the upcoming polls, I urge you to maintain peace and respect each other,” he said.
