As the world celebrates World Teachers’ Day today, KNUT Nyamira Branch Executive Secretary, Evans Obiri has celebrated teachers’ dedication in their work.
Speaking to the media this morning, Obiri said teachers in Nyamira have displayed unwavering dedication and commitment to shape the minds of students who are future leaders.
“Your tireless efforts, often behind the scenes, have not gone unnoticed. From the early morning prep to the late evening marking, you’ve shown up day in, day out, nurturing, mentoring, and inspiring young minds to reach their full potential,” Obiri told teachers.
Mr. Obiri says that the Nyamira KNUT branch takes pride in the significant strides they have made in improving access to education, advocating for teachers’ welfare and promoting innovative learning methods.
“Our efforts have borne fruit, and we have seen our students excel in various fields, becoming role models and leaders in their own right,” said Obiri.
He however acknowledged the challenges that teachers in Kenya face in their line of work.
“From limited resources to heavy workloads, and from societal pressures to emotional demands, we’ve had to navigate complex terrain,” he regretted. “But through it all, we’ve shown resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to our noble profession.”
As we mark this World Teachers’ Day, Obiri said, let’s draw strength from our collective experiences, our triumphs, and our challenges.
He asked teachers to continue to support one another, uplift each other, and to advocate for their rights and welfare.
“Together, we can achieve great things. We can create a brighter future for our students, our communities, and our nation,” he assured the teachers.
As a teacher, Obiri agreed that teaching learners and watching them succeed later in life is so satisfying and motivating.
“We form strong bonds with students, colleagues, and the community besides knowing that you are contributing to shaping future generations and making a difference in society,” he concluded.
World Teachers’ Day was established in 1994 by UNESCO to commemorate the anniversary of the 1966 adoption of the ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the status of teachers which sets global standards for teachers’ rights, responsibilities, and working conditions.
This year’s theme, ‘Recasting teaching as a collaborative profession,’ emphasizes the transformative power of teamwork in education.
