Nyamira Women Representative, Jerusha Mong’ina Momanyi, has continued to gain momentum as she presses her 2027 gubernatorial bid, causing ripples among her competitors.

In the recent past, Jerusha has heightened her grassroots campaigns, banking on women who are the majority voters in the county.

She has received support from various groups, including the famous “Green Army,” consisting of women from each ward who drum up support for her bid.

“I have studied the county, I have listened to the people and their priorities, and I have come up with a formula to help them,” Mong’ina declared at a past event.

Speaking at Matutu PAG today morning during the anti-gender-based violence campaign, she insisted that she will run for the county’s top position in 2027 because she has proven her ability to deliver, unlike others who are seeking the same position.

“There are rumors that I am going to be a running mate to someone. That will not happen. I am going to fight with these men and see who will triumph come 2027,” she announced.

Ms. Mong’ina stated that women are good managers of resources and, given the opportunity, she will deliver more effectively than the current governor.

“Nyamira County needs and deserves a female governor to transform it, as is witnessed in Homabay and Kirinyaga counties,” she said. “I have offered myself to serve as a governor, and I will need your support.”

The Women Rep has recently traversed almost all wards, donating chairs, tents, club uniforms, and cash.

With the help of the “Green Army,” she has gained support from welfare groups, football clubs, bodaboda riders, and community-based organizations that directly interact with people in the villages.

She runs her campaigns using her focal points: anti-gender-based violence, women empowerment, education, health, and accountability in managing resources.

The Matutu event brought together women representatives from across the country, including Kisii, Samburu, Kwale, Narok, Vihiga, Nyandarua, Embu, West Pokot, and MP for Aldai, Maryanne Kaitanny.

The leaders supported her bid, saying women leaders know how to manage and distribute resources.

“Female governors have proven to do well, as opposed to their male counterparts who have been hit with scandals,” said Embu County Women Representative, Pamela Njoki.

She further stated that Mong’ina has proven to be a good leader who cares about her people, which is why she is helping the needy and most vulnerable in the villages.

Njoki said it is time for women to lead in all positions because of their hard work and should be treated fairly as their male counterparts.

The Nyamira County Women Representative has also urged people in the villages to organize themselves into groups so that they can benefit from national government empowerment programs.

“When you are in groups, you can easily access funding and donations from the government because groups are accountable for the resources they receive,” she said.

She has also engaged the National Construction Authority (NCA) to train and accredit skilled laborers without formal education but who have relevant experience in construction.

The training exercise, which took place at constituent levels, sought to increase employment chances for youth who did not go to college but have gained skills from others.

“Many have not gone to college, but they have mastered building and construction skills from others who have gone to college and can deliver,” she said.

During one of the training sessions in West Mugirango, held at Nyamira Boys, Jerusha said it was a dream come true for Nyamira.

“I am happy that my dream has finally been achieved to have skilled labor in society who will operate legally and safely,” she said.

Jerusha’s quest for the county’s top job has caused ripples in the political sphere of the county, emerging as a top contender after the current governor, Amos Nyaribo.
