Charles Asati is a former Kenyan athlete who was known for his prowess in sprinting, particularly in the 400 meters and 4×400 meters relay events. Born on October 5, 1951, in the Nyamira District of Kenya, he made a significant impact in the world of athletics during the 1970s and 1980s.

Charles Asati is most renowned for his achievements in relay races, representing Kenya on the international stage. He was a member of the Kenyan 4×400 meters relay team that achieved a historic victory at the 1972 Munich Olympics. The Kenyan quartet, which included Charles Asati, Hezron Otwori, Munyoro Nyamau, and Robert Ouko, won the gold medal in the 4×400 meters relay, becoming the first African team to achieve this feat at the Olympics. This victory was a significant milestone for Kenya and for African athletes in general.

Asati’s remarkable performance and contributions to the relay team solidified his reputation as one of Kenya’s greatest athletes during his era. He continued to compete in various international competitions, showcasing his exceptional speed and endurance.

  1. It is very unfortunate that heroes like Charles have got nothing to smile about even after having achieved alot for the country. The government should move with speed to recognize their selfless endeavor that enabled the country be ranked among the best performing countries in sports.
